He moves freely between different presentations of the reality (as from color to black and white, and back to color). The connection with his subjects is intimate within the space, although, at times a detail in the back"

Fuchs Projects at Ogilvy , NYC

Fuchs Projects gallery is honored to be invited to create an outpost installation of artworks of its artists at the New York headquarters of Ogilvy, the international advertising, marketing and public relations agency. The installations will be an ongoing project, and the artworks will change over the time.

Everything Must Go is Rafael Fuchs’ sixth installation at Fuchs Projects since it was founded in August of 2012. This time its a foray into a conceptual exploration of new possibilities made of out-takes that he found in one bag of rejected images from different assignments that he shot in the past.  These images are now taken out of context, shuffled,  combined with images that were created by him for personal projects around the same time , and juxtaposed as pairs or as installations that create a new elusive content. In some cases, a simple method of turning an image upside down gives it  a second chance and makes it more pleasing esthetically, when the straight presentation of it is not flattering the subject in most common consciousness (as in the case of the images of Tony Shafrazi or Thelma Golden.)

       Rafael Fuchs, renowned for his celebrity portraits and pioneering use of color photography continues to explore the photography media and its esthetics of presentation as well as the boundaries of erotic art.
Following the subversive notion of  “More Is Less”, Rafael is extending the technique he, first, embraced in the late 80’s of mosaic-like darkroom printing, and is using the computer to create dazzling images of multiplicity,  as in the work “Pears”(2012).
The exhibition highlights recent works ,mostly from the Summer of 2012.
The intimate and intense single portraits that were taken at the home-studio of the photographer as well as the grid-like large prints radiate with frantic energy.
Encouraged to express themselves , Rafael’s subjects were captured in a moment of being self conscious or self possessed.  For instance, the usage of ropes in some of the nude works was a suggestion of the subject.
This recent work that has a bite of gritty realism. explores different modes of portraiture, as role-playing, collaboration and documentation.
In the work “Prive”, Rafael is embracing what seems to be as a masturbating act of one of the subjects, and multiply it in his later prints, creating a seemingly decorative-like pattern, that reveals itself only from a closer look.
The title “Till We Bleed” refers. mostly, to the commitment to explore the boundaries of art and consensus in our contemporary culture. It also a homage to an impossible love.

"In Between"​ is Rafael Fuchs new series of archival pigment prints. These vibrant works present themselves as hybrid expressions of narrative and abstract, and hence, the title "In Between." Furthermore, the works embrace the discipline of chance printing methods. The images transcend the boundaries of figure and nature, manifesting the surreal and spiritual.

Bushwick_The Struggle_episode 1 : Moving In

Hello my friends,
So, I revealed the first (free) episode of my new movie "Bushwick_The Struggle". It's about 5 minutes long.
The whole movie is an hour movie (in 7 chapters) that has a new direction of my personal documentary of my past 7 years in Bushwick.
Bitter or sweet...you'll decide.
I don't even want to start saying what changes have happend in my life...parralel to the changes that I witnessed in Bushwick.
